role reversals

Sunday, March 11, 2012

is this really happening? am i really sitting on the couch on a sunday night and relaxing? usually i'm plastered at my desk until wee hours of the morning, but since i just started spring break, i don't have to go to class tomorrow.  or the day after that.  or the day after that!

of course, there's still that exam (after i get back) that i have to study for, but when it comes to not having to go to class or lab or clinical for 8+ hours a day, excited is an understatement.

since rob had a paper to finish for his history class, he took my place for the night. talk about role reversals...

ps. rob looks a heck of a lot happier than i ever look sitting there.

morning hair + banana pancakes.

Saturday, February 18, 2012

this morning, ro and i danced to early beatles while we made banana pancakes.  we completely ignored the fact that both of us looked like we got caught in a wind tunnel.

a terrific morning, indeed.

little things.

Wednesday, February 8, 2012

so the reason i've been so m.i.a. lately is because school has gotten crazy--crazy to the point of waking up, going to school, coming home, studying, and going to bed.  the redundancy of it all got me a bit down, especially considering the fact that i had an exam the day after the superbowl.  and the patriots didn't even win. the worst.

but monday evening, after my test and practical, ro came home with flowers in his hand.  it was completely and overwhelmingly thoughtful.  and they were so bright and colorful. and it really made me think--hmm, alison, you haven't been so bright and colorful yourself lately...

so i took some time to think about it, and i decided to get my schedule a little more organized. mainly so i can dedicate a bit more time in my week to things that make me happy.

the little things--like waking up early to eat breakfast with ro, calling my family just to say hi, or projects that get my creative juices flowing.  these are what keep me going.

the franklin institute!

Thursday, January 5, 2012

rob and i finally took a trip to a place we've been meaning to go to for a long time....the franklin institute!  since i purchased the tickets through groupon, it ended up costing us nearly nothing for admission, too!  (best deal ever.)

1

we solved some crime at the CSI exhibit (above), saw skeletons on ellipticals (hilarious), and found out that i'm the same height as jockey anthony black!  oh, 4'11"....

2

rob attempted to surf and pulled some mean 360 turns on the ice skating simulator....

we also went FLYING! (rob more successfully than i)

5

we even saw ben franklin!  however, nothing beat (haha! lame, i know, sorry) our walking tour of the giant human heart.

(if only i had known this was here before my cardio exam, things would have been a LOT easier.)

6

rob and i ate too much candy, ran from exhibit to exhibit, and touched everything in the museum.
such little kids we are.
what a perfect day.

thanks for the fun, 2011!

Saturday, December 31, 2011

oh 2011, have you really come and gone already?  i'll miss you, but i won't forget my favorite memories that you've brought:

the philly flower show this past february.  tulips...everywhere!

flower show

the attempt to catch a sunrise in lbi.  it turned out to be too hazy, but it was still a lot of fun (minus rob practically using a crow bar to get me out of bed.)

our boston adventure (it was rob's first visit!)...

DSC08602

surprising rob with a trip to nyc to see our good friend, mr. stoudemire...

knicks

and his first submission to an art show.

DSC08844

lazy days at the beach and visiting my favorite president, george washington...

having cake, and eating it, too.

shore2

venturing out in a monsoon, spending time at the shore with good friends, watching my sister graduate from her pediatric dental residency........then seeing her get ENGAGED!

kristy

visiting the museum of natural science and buying a uklelele for my grandfather's 88th birthday (seriously, that's what he told us he wanted.)

DSC09098

finding a new place to live on the hottest day of summer, almost having a retro floor, finally moving into a lovely little apartment...

apt

...and making it our home.

starting physical therapy school and finding treasures out of someone else's trash...

saying goodbye to old friends,

and sharing happiest moments with best ones.

DSC09755

going apple picking, watching thunderstorms from our balcony, hosting an ugly sweater party, and making homemade pizza on fridays...and saturdays...(and maybe sundays)...

but most of all, spending it all with my favorite guy.

what having your girlfriend in pt school does to you.

Monday, December 12, 2011

last night, to help me study for my exam, rob let me draw every elbow muscles' origin and insertion on his arm.  he acted excited while i did it, and football was even on.

he loves me, he really loves me.

it's beginning to look a lot like christmas
(in our apartment)

Thursday, December 1, 2011

ever since i received 'a very she & him christmas' on vinyl, i've been in full christmas mode.  lucky for me, rob was perfectly fine with it.

we were very merry listening to zooey and matt, bing crosby and johnny mathis. aside from the fact that it wasn't even thanksgiving yet. and we didn't have a single christmas decoration.

but then thanksgiving came along, and black friday came along, and i found the perfect little pre-lit tree for our little apartment. it suits our place well, and it finds happy company next to our charlie brown tree.

i think rob is relieved that we didn't get a live tree--i usually want to take home the beat-up, rejected ones because they're the ones that need the most love.
