our saturday with science

Saturday, August 20, 2011

this past saturday, ro and i took a trip to philly's museum district to visit the academy of natural sciences. these last few weekends, our priority was getting the apartment in order, so it was nice to finally have a day completely to ourselves. we're also trying to get in as much time together before grad school starts and studying takes over my life. (yikes!)

en route to the train station, we passed by glenside's farmers market! it was too good to pass up, so rob pulled an illegal u-turn in the middle of a busy intersection and we stopped for a quick peek. rob bought some homemade indian teas--absolutely delicious. i can't wait to brew them, especially since i've always been a tea kind of girl. no offense, starbucks.

we stopped by the fountain in logan square before heading into the museum. the weather was so sunny and beautiful--such a change all the thunderstorms we've been having lately! we sat out on the grass for a while, but soon decided it was necessary to put our feet in the water. why put pennies in fountains when you can put your toes?

when we finally headed into the academy: t-rexs GALORE! i was SO excited!

ro and i saw lots of animal displays, but nothing was as amazing as the butterfly garden. we literally walked through a curtain and were surrounded by tropical butterflies. some of the most beautiful colors i've ever seen! the butterflies seemed to like rob, too...they kept landing on him!

of course, no trip of ours to philly is complete without a stop at reading terminal market. we had dinic's pulled pork for dinner. rob finished his sandwich easily....as well as mine. i don't call him the pit for nothing!

(rob did this!)

hope you all enjoyed your weekend as much as we did!

check out that guy dancing

a few months ago my best friend andrew invited me to his cousin's wedding. a wedding we were told was billed as 'bring your silly hats' mind you.

while we all ate our meals everyone's attention was on a young lady who decided that this was an opportune time to show off her dance skills. skills she no doubt acquired while stripping at the play house.

andrew was about 5 whiskey and waters down at this point and despite our best efforts would not approach the daring young woman. it was only after andrew's uncle, uncle frank, went up to her, danced with her, flirted with her, and dragged her to andrew, did andrew find the courage to join her on the dance floor.

this was the awesomeness that ensued.

for those who can't read lips andrew is exclaiming 'i can't dance'. also his thumbs up off camera is no doubt to the bearer of this gift, uncle frank.

a new england lbi getaway

Thursday, August 11, 2011

hello! ali here. i feel like i'm backtracking with posts, but so many exciting things have happened recently! my wonderful college roommates drove down from new england to visit for a quick beach getaway. it's really a tease seeing flis, rudy, diggs, and rb for only 48 hours--the time flies by when they're here, and before i even realize it, we're already saying goodbye.

luckily, it didn't stop us from maximizing our time laying on the beach (i need all the sun i can get), playing a sufficient amount of ladderball, and stuffing our faces with wings from the chegg. why does it always taste better at 3am?

a few of rob's friends also visited (though i like referring to them as my friends now, too). i love meeting new people.....especially when they're awesome.

i'm off to the shore this weekend! my bike (thelma) recently had her bearings broken. i've waited with local the bike shop for two weeks to get a new back wheel for her, and it finally arrived! i can't wait to get back on her--nothing makes me happier than riding bikes down sunny, old beach roads with rob.

enjoy the weekend!

bowman's tower

Tuesday, August 9, 2011

ahh, the first post! i've been meaning to start a while ago, but things have been crazy with moving into the new apartment. thankfully it's all coming along so nicely! i'll be sure to put up pictures once everything is a little more organized.

rob and i took a day trip to new hope a few saturdays ago! we first stopped at bowman's tower, where washington and his troops used to keep watch on the delaware river. it was so awesome to stand in the exact same place where my favorite president stood hundreds of years ago!

after exploring the tower, we headed to new hope, pa for a seriously delicious lunch. i can't believe i hadn't been to new hope before--it's such a unique little town! we met a feathery friend, bought candy cigarettes from an old-fashioned candy shop, and rob put up with me dragging him in every vintage dress shop. a successful day to say the least!

i made this little montage of our day's adventures. my first attempt at video editing--ha!
